I loved your reaction! I looked up (just Wikipedia-nothing special) the contributions of the characters to the war effort. It was helpful. Also - there are a couple of theories you might find interesting. Eliza never had a rap in the play because she was the only one who wasn’t running out of time, and the play may have been named Hamilton - not for Alexander but for Eliza because she the one who lives to tell the story.

So much of this show sits in a very not-quiet place in my mind. But so much is lost if you talk over it or aren't using captions (not a criticism, really, just), a detail I see often with reactions, where people are too busy trying to figure things out, get stuck on details that are all wrong, and then talk MORE because it doesnt make sense... again... because the reaction overrides the "pay attention to details" aspect. Daveed plays Lafayette and Jefferson. One actor, two acts, two characters. Hercules Mulligan's actor also performs as James Madison in the second half. Phillip (Ham's son) and Lawrence are played by the same man, two acts, two characters. It's better to have one person for two different characters (and two sets of costumes) and keep skills in-house. So when you hear the voice and face of Lawrence calling Hamilton "dad" it's quite literally because he's a completely different character. Same with Peggy hitting on Ham... because it isn't Peggy, it's Reynolds. Angelica and Ham never had an affair, at least, not beyond admiring each other's minds and writing styles. For the sake of the stage performance, she regretted introducing Ham to Eliza, but it makes for fantasy-thinking. The sisters also had brothers, so saying there were no boys in the family is built up for the sake of this show. But getting the sisters mixed up, saying he's with Peggy.... who was MUCH younger, and, if you notice when Philip dies, they're already dressed in black.... because they quite literally just came from Peggy's funeral. And when Angelica starts to sing, the song (and dancers) quite literalky REWINDS to when SHE first met him and decided to introduce him to Eliza. It wasn't an affair, it was her recognizing his brilliance and forward-thinking, and appreciating his character, crushing on him, but fully accepting she can't have him. The physical "rewind" and the lyrical "rewind" and her somewhat stutter when re-starting after the rewind... Watch this again WITH CAPTIONS... you'll see the stuff you missed or misunderstood. No matter how many times I’ve watched Hamilton, I always discover something new lyrically wise. This is one of my absolute favorite musicals.
